Alicante is a city with 3.000 years of history behind it. The origin of the city goes back to the 4th Century BC, with the Iberians. It is a place that has always been coveted by the different civilisations which have inhabited the Mediterranean Sea.

Akra-Leuka (Greeks), Lucentum (Romans), Ali-qant (Arabs)... these are just some of the names that have been given to Alicante throughout its history. Alfonso the 10th, known as The Wise, conquered the city in 1246 for the Castilian Crown and in 1296 Jaime II incorporated Alicante in the kingdom of Aragon. In 1490 Ferdinand the Catholic granted Alicante its "City Charter". Alicante conserves the remains of each historical period. With the arrival of the railway in 19th Century, its linkage to the centre of the peninsula guaranteed its leading role as a port, giving it the cosmopolitan air of a city facing the sea and welcoming maritime traffic. Nowadays there are connections from Alicante International Airport to any national or international destinations.

With its majestic palm trees, crystal-blue sea, white beaches, two historic castles, its churches, its parks and gardens, its modern pleasure port, various shopping centres, the friendly people, its 2730 sunhours per year with an average year round temperature of 18º C and, of course, with its never-ending nightlife your days will be too short in Alicante. Alicante's beaches are acclaimed internationally, and their exceptional quality is recognised each year by the European Union with its Blue Flag awards.

Depending on the season in which you happen to be staying with us, you will fall in love with Alicante during one of its FIESTAS. While there are a variety of interesting possibilities in this respect throughout the course of the year, the most important are those celebrated between the 20th and the 24th June, when the city of Alicante explodes with colour, music and happiness - known as the Bonfires of San Juan, fiestas which have been declared an international tourist interest. FIESTAS play an inevitable part in the lifestyle of the people from Alicante.

The School

The school is a small co-operative of teachers. Our main aim is to ensure that during your stay you learn how to speak, think and feel in Spanish. Classrooms are perfect in equipped and air-conditioned. We are located within the really centre of the town, within the main shopping area, only 5 min. to the sea and a few minutes away from the historic sights.

All the teachers are University Graduates with many years of teaching experience. The familiar way our highly qualified teachers interact with the students, creates a friendly, dynamic and young atmosphere.

Our School runs courses of seven different levels: Beginner, elementary, lower intermediate, intermediate, upper intermediate, advanced and superior.

We always offer 4 basic levels the year round: beginner, elementary, intermediate and advanced. We will open a group even with one student only.

There is a programme of extra-curricular activities: visits to the city, art exhibitions, theatre plays, Spanish films, excursions to nearby villages, parties, golf or adventure sports, flamenco dancing...

The methodology is active and communicative. The student speaks from the starting day. All modern teaching methods are employed and a very personalised teaching service is provided which caters for the needs of the individual students.

Groups consist of an average of 6 to 12 participants, intermittently also up to 14, and an hour of instruction consists of 50 min.

Students are given a written and oral test on arrival and placed in a class according to their knowledge of the Spanish language.

We insist that all our students complete daily homework exercises and attend all their classes. This is to enable the whole class to progress rapidly and at the same pace.

A certificate will be issued by the Centre at the end of the course, but we reserve the right to refuse such a certificate to any student who did not attend 90% of classes.

We have a collaboration programme with Eastern Connecticut State University, who accepts our courses as credits.

Please note: If you would like further information about our school, any of our courses, starting dates or prices, write to our address.

Accommodation

Accommodation is arranged for students in host families or student shared apartments. Host Families treat the students as one of the family. Students can avail the opportunity to participate in the everyday life of a Spanish family.

In exchange for these benefits you have to fit in with your host family's way of life and customs. We offer Host Families on a full or half board basis in a single or twin room . Full board includes breakfast, lunch, evening meal and laundry and half board includes breakfast, evening meal and laundry.

We also help our pupils to find single and double rooms to rent in shared flats either with Spaniards or with up to 5 other students from the School. The apartments are comfortable, but basically furnished, don't expect luxury. The students are responsible for keeping them clean and for bringing their own towels.

Both apartments and families have all been selected and are visited by our staff regularly.
